In which I am too excited to speak

I have been a bit quiet these last few days because my head has been like one of those bingo ball machines. I have been all a-flutter, and haven’t known what’s going to be spewing out next. There are a number of reasons for this, some of which I won’t go into in case crazy ladies start spitting up bile all over the comments box again, and you know how I hate having to go and get the bucket of sand from my special blog cleaning cupboard.

However, one reason is that yesterday I had a job interview. It’s for a job that sounds absolutely brilliant, and which I would very much like to get. The interview was over the phone, and so I found it difficult to gauge how I’d done, but it seems that they want me to go in and meet them, so I’m flying home for a week, in two weeks time.

Over the last few hours my head has been filling with all kinds of things, both good and bad, that I can look forward to in the UK that I don’t get here. These include:

my boyfriend
real ale
more kinds of cheese than you can shake a stick at
jaffa cakes
crumpets
rain
news features about pointless morons trapped in a house
sausages
clouds
ben and jerrys ice cream
book shops
television (not sure yet whether this is good or bad - I suspect mostly the latter)
grass (the kind that lawns are made from)
traffic

It’s alarming me how many of these involve food.

Cautionary tale: I flew home for job interview and heard today that I didn’t get it.

Do companies still pay travel costs for interview? Reckon they’d stump up $1,200?

Seriously, though, good luck. I’ve had most of those things but really need a curry.

When away from the UK the Good Man pines for Jaffa cakes. I pine for cheese boards that extend beyond chewy cheddar and Gouda. But I’ve found the novelty wears off… Good luck with the job interview though - and enjoy the trip!

good luck! enidd misses decent tea bags, those scottish oatcakes, proper (non-american) cheddar and much, much more. and they’re all to do with food.

Marmite and sliced white bread all the way. Used to eat mountains of it when I got back to school at the beginning of each term (ex-pat brat!)

Good to see how high up the list your family come!!!
Will save whole heap of dirty nappies for you.

Ourman, that’s brought me down to earth with a thud! I need a reality check. Oh well… Sorry you didn’t get the job.

Good woman - I pine for both those things. I wonder how long it will take for the novelty to wear off!

enidd - I’m with you on the tea bags. I had to get people to bring them out. I’m glad i’m not the only obsessive foody though!

Kelly, marmite. Yuk. That’s just wrong.

Chris, you’re not on the list because I don’t know if I’ll get to see you this time around. You are in my head though. And thanks for the nappies. I can’t wait. x

I’ll be sure to try these jaffa cakes you speak of when I’m in the UK in early Sept! Good luck on the job interview!!

The only time I would egg someone on to return to UK is on a day like today.

Blue skies, hot as hell but the breeze keeps it coolish, deep green foliage and the multi-coloured garden beds in full bloom. Sound of lawn mowers in the distance and doves and pigeons coo-cooing.

Pure bliss. And a cup of Tetley tea with a Rich Tea biscuit and later sandwiches on the patio or a maybe BBQ.

But this only lasts a day and then the normal weather service resumes. And you wonder.

Best of luck for the interview. Hope you get what you want. Either way.
