Don’t worry, Don’t panic

I’m sorry if I’ve worried anyone - I’m on holiday. Things busy at work before I left, and didn’t get a chance to update the old blog. Anyway, I will be back next Monday.

Right, off to drink wine in the sun.

Oh damn, and there was me thinking that I was special in her picking out MY blog to comment on about how she liked it. Sigh.

Anyway, am glad that you’ve not been kidnapped or some such thing. Holiday is so much better :)

I’ll await your next installment with baited breath…

Just read your entire blog, yup, I did. Enjoyed it. I do have a life but I read the entire blog at work!

Yes, I enjoyed your entire blog, but at times, i found myself smelling a hint of racial prejudice, ignorance and a notion of superior thought. No doubt some cultures are better than others, but denial of ones own prejudice is prejudice and ignorant. I see even with your non-alignment to theism, you are almost spelling the words stupidity when you speak of spiritual theistic beliefs. The writing is left wanting in those two aspects, but otherwise great.

  5. Chris Says:

Rach. Keep up the writing we enjoy. Keep saying what you think and more importantly saying what you see. To do anything else is to be unfair to yourself, and sticking your head in the sand. We love you for it.

ps No cultures are better than others.

you have a happy head! ~Unsane.

Of course some cultures are better than others — or can I treat you to a nice cliterodectomy and infibulation?

The commenter, “None”/Henk, said: ‘denial of ones own prejudice is prejudice and ignorant. ‘

I think he meant ”denial of ones own prejudice is prejudiced and ignorant. ‘
His statement is, of course, mostly a tautology.

  8. Rachie Says:

Ellie - you are special hon.

Kathleen - thanks! I’m glad you enjoy it.

Henk, thanks for commenting. I appreciate what you’re saying, however I have never denied that I am prejudiced. It’s impossible to be a human being and not to have prejudices. I try to be aware of them. I have also never said that I believe my culture to be superior to any other, nor do I believe that I am racially prejudiced in any way. I take the piss out of daft people regardless of where they are from, or the colour of their skin. Neither do I believe that faith is stupid - I simply don’t have any, and resent having it forced on me. I’m sorry if the blog gives the erroneous impression that I consider myself a superior being (although being a goddess can be hard some days). I’m simply writing about my experiences from my own cultural perspective, and I will continue to do that. I know myself, and I’m comfortable with who I am.

    Chris - bless you. Thanks!

Jennifer - although I see his point!

Must have misunderstood. You say that you would never date a Namibian man, for valid sounding reasons, (don’t know much about the people). And in the same breath denying the racist tone or intention? Can’t really get the authenticity of the occurence with the take-home guy with the textured hair, he seems so out of place when i look at your take on things.

In any case, by all means continue with the funny stuff.

    ps

It”s between a rock and a hard place.

  11. Rachie Says:

Hey, Henk, nobody’s perfect. My reasons for not wishing to date Namibian men are quite complex, and while I don’t feel they are particularly racist, I can see how it may come across that way. I probably would not put it so strongly these days, and, were I not involved with someone at the moment, if I were to meet someone I really liked, I’d go for it regardless of their nationality. However, I’ve not met any Namibian men I am interested in, not even the ‘take-home guy’. Did he have textured hair? I believe I said ‘tow-coloured’, not textured. Make any assumptions you like about me from my writing - just don’t be convinced that you are making the right ones.

ps - for you maybe. For me, blogging is just an enjoyable hobby. Thanks for your comments (I mean that - it’s good to hear other people’s opinions, whether I agree with them or not). Thanks also for your kind permission to carry on with the ‘funny stuff’. I may just do that.

pps - what does Glg mean?

  12. Henk Schweitzer Says:

    Glg

German for ganz liebe Gruesse (Kind regards in English)
Allright then, I’ll be out of your hair, no pun intended.

    Best regards
    H.
